FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who Does the Counseling? We are Christians.  We believe that the Bible is from God, that it is all true and that it is sufficient for all of life’s problems.

All of our counselors, whether pastors or laypersons, undergo thorough training in biblical counseling.  We use God’s Word to glorify Him by assisting struggling people to establish and/or deepen their relationship with Christ.

We are not licensed.  We are not psychologists or psychiatrists or therapists.  We are not so-called “experts.”  In truth, there are no human “experts”.  God knows you better than anyone and God is not silent about your issue.

Is There Hope That This Will Work? We believe that God has given us all we need … to know Him and to live in a way that is pleasing to Him.  All our difficulties may not evaporate.  However, when a person willingly submits to God’s instructions and holds to His promises there is hope and there is help.

What Kinds of Concerns Can You Help Me With? We see folks with all kinds of problems, but the most common would be those struggling in their marriage, helping parents with their children, those dealing with sexual sin, and those struggling with their emotions (e.g. depression or anger).  In all cases, we use the Bible … God’s Sufficient Word … to answer the problems of life.

Must I Believe in Christ? If you are not born again, then that’s where we must start.  We will explain the gospel itself: God, Man, Christ, Salvation.  If you haven’t repented and trusted Christ, we really can’t help you.  It would be like putting a band-aid on a gushing wound.

What Can I Expect From KBCBCC? First, you can expect that everything will be held in strict confidence except where, in the counselor’s judgment, there is a biblical requirement to involve others (e.g. criminal activity).

Second, you can expect that our counselors will care for you, will pray for and with you, will encourage you and give you hope through God’s Word.

Third, you can know that you are not alone.  There is help.  There is God’s grace.  There is God the Holy Spirit, always present, doing the work to bring change into your life.  We can’t work miracles, but God can as you yield to Him, trust Him and take Him at His Word.

What Does KBCBCC Expect From Me? We have three requests.  First, we ask you to be honest.  If is very difficult, if not impossible, to help you if you continually lie or hide information.

Second, we ask that you attend worship services here (or at another Bible-believing church) and that you do weekly homework assignments that will encourage lasting change.

Third, we ask you to give us a little time.  Habits were not developed overnight and new habits will take several weeks to develop.

When is Counseling Available? By appointment.

How Much Does This Cost? Since Kerrville Bible Church provides the facilities and the counselors volunteer their time, we can offer the counseling free of charge.  Out of respect for our staff, we require a $25.00 deposit, which is forfeited for last minute cancellations.

How Long Will It Take? Unlike most secular counseling, this won’t drag on forever.  Generally we find that 6 – 12 weeks is enough time to identify and define the problem biblically and then apply the correct biblical answers.  Beyond that, we would start repeating ourselves!
