- Are there any other staff members?
- We have three full-time staff, Chris McKnight, Pastor/Teacher, Carol Jane Graves, Choir Director and Keyboardist and Ruth Perkins, Church Secretary.
- Do you have ministries for children and teens?
- Nursery, Sunday school, AWANA Bible Clubs and Children’s Church (3 – K) make up our Children’s Ministry. For teens, we offer a Wednesday night youth discipleship for Senior High only and Sunday school for 7th – 12th graders.
- Do you speak in tongues?
- No, we do not believe the gift of tongues was a permanent gift for the church.
- Do you support missions?
- Very much so! Our church budget calls for 30% of offerings to go toward missions, both local ministries and overseas. We’ve made many short-term mission trips to Russia, Africa and Mexico.
- How big is your church?
- We have around 150 adult members and 180-220 in attendance each Sunday morning.
- How do people dress for church?
- For the most part our membership would be dressed in typical “business casual” attire, up to coats and ties for men and dresses for ladies.
- What is your practice concerning Baptism and the Lord’s Table or Communion?
- We practice the baptism of believers by immersion. Those desiring baptism attend a class and meet with the pastor. We have the Lord’s Table once a month. It’s open to all believers who have examined themselves and confessed their sins to the Lord.
- What style of music do you have in your worship service?
- We strive toward a balanced, blended approach that emphasizes sound, biblical lyrics with depth, shying away from shallow, repetitive music. We seek to have equal parts hymns, both young and old, along with more contemporary songs. Often we have guitar accompaniment, along with the keyboard. We rotate song leaders on a monthly basis and are blessed to have an excellent Adult Choir and special music often.
- What style of preaching do you have?
- Our church and pastor firmly embraces expository or expositional preaching, where the text of the Bible itself drives the sermon – down to the outline, points and application. Expository preaching is mostly about a method where the preaching seeks to draw out the meaning of a passage of Scripture, explain and illustrate that central meaning and then apply it to the listener’s life. Most often expository preaching here is sequential, meaning we will start in a book of the Bible at the beginning and week by week, work our way through it, a natural passage or paragraph at a time. In this way, you get the Word of God, not the pastor’s opinions or hobby horses and you get the whole counsel of God, since we don’t skip over the hard to understand or hard to believe parts. Pastor Chris has preached through John, Ephesians, the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, Acts, many of the Psalms, Romans and is currently preaching through Daniel.
On occasion the sequential approach will be interrupted for a special series or sermon related to some topic of interest or need. Even still, the goal is to go to the Bible for the material and let the Bible speak to the issue. - What version of the bible do you use?
- Pastor McKnight preaches from the New American Standard (NASB). The congregation uses a mixture, ranging from KJV and NKJV, to NIV, ESV and NASB. Our pew Bible is the NASB.
