Bernie Page, Elder
Bernie Page was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1947 and grew up just outside of town in a semi-rural setting with his parents, older sister, and younger brother. He enjoyed a “Tom Sawyer”-like childhood—roaming the outdoors, climbing trees, building forts and treehouses, and engaging in epic snowball fights. He attended public school during the height of the baby boomer era and was consistently part of the largest graduating classes in his schools.
After high school, Bernie attended Kansas State University on a wrestling scholarship and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. Shortly after graduation, he married and moved to Texas where he raised two daughters. He still has a close relationship with both of his older daughters. Bernie worked primarily in small animal practice but also treated equine patients, served at the racetrack in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and provided veterinary care for the El Paso Zoo and visiting circuses. Along the way, he raised ostrich eggs, black indigo snakes, and cashmere goats. Bernie has worked in youth ministry, served in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and coached wrestling. Bernie has also enjoyed playing rugby both in El Paso and in Kerrville. He is always the storyteller and published a young adult Christian novel entitled, Crossings. In 2006, God blessed Bernie with a second chance at family life when he married Allison. Their son Daniel was born in 2008, and their daughter Darcy joined the family in 2010. In 2015, the family moved from El Paso to Kerrville, drawn by their love for the Hill Country and a desire to raise their children in a smaller community. Finding KBC has been a tremendous blessing to Bernie and his family. They are grateful for the love they have received and for the opportunities God has provided for them to serve. |
