I was born in 1948 in Erie Pennsylvania, the first of six children, 4 boys and 2 girls. Mom and Dad were not believers when they first married but five years, by the time my second sister was born they had committed their lives to Christ. The earliest memories my two sisters and I have (one sister is deceased) are of mom preparing flannel graph stories each week for children’s Sunday school and dad preparing to teach an adult class.
I grew up in Florida and Maryland. In 1959, at the age of 11, I accepted Christ as my Savior. After high school, I attended the University of Maryland. In 1968, I lost my student draft deferment in the heat of the Vietnam conflict. Not wanting to be drafted by the Army or Marines and be deployed in country to march through rice patties, I enlisted in the US Navy. Nearly seven years in the Navy afforded me good leadership skills and advanced electronics training.
My family moved to Texas in 1978. By the providence of God, I met Fritzeen in November 1982, in Spring, TX. She had been a single mom for 10 years. We were married in April 1983 in Houston. I worked in the personal computer industry and in 1990 we moved to Dallas where I took a corporate management position. In 2000 we moved to northern California for a senior management position in a technology startup. When that business was acquired in 2002, I accepted the position of Administrative Pastor at our church. Since 2001, Fritzeen and I have been discipling and mentoring, individuals, couples, and pre-marital counseling; often ministering together.
In 2019 on a trip to Texas, we discovered Kerrville. The timing seemed right to move back to Texas after 20 years in California. We found Kerrville Bible Church online, listened to Chris’s preaching, read the Doctrinal Statement and the Statement of Faith. It was exactly what we were looking for in a church. In December 2019, we returned to Kerrville on a house-hunting trip. Kim McKnight was our realtor. In February, we had a contract on our California house and, through Kim, purchased our home in Kerrville. We arrived at the onset of Covid and shelter-in-place. As we look back, we easily see the hand of God in every detail of our move. By God’s grace, we pray this is our launch pad – our final stop before our eternal home.
