My story is about a happy kid, raised in Houston with lots of friends, who loved baseball, competitive swimming and school. Our family went to church almost every Sunday where I was confirmed at age 12. I went to The University of Texas and stopped going to church. I earned a BA in mathematics (1968) and an MBA from Harvard (1971). And I still didn’t go to church.
For the next 30 years I was an entrepreneur (often with partners) in a variety of businesses. I married, raised three wonderful daughters, and in 2001, my wife left me. I still had not gone to church in all that time.
I was at the bottom when a friend asked me “What do you have that you were not given?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). That question changed everything. I started reading the Book of Matthew and the Lord revealed Himself to me. To be saved at age 55 is a remarkable blessing because it is so clear that I did nothing – it was all done by Him.
Five years later, the Lord answered my prayer for a godly woman when Lainie said “Yes”. We moved from Scottsdale to Kerrville in 2007. He brought us to Kerrville Bible Church immediately. Since then, we have built our life around serving the Lord.
Lainie retired after 13 years as Executive Director of The Pregnancy Resource Center. We are certified biblical counselors and have helped couples and individuals from within KBC and outside the church with an active practice since 2009.
My joy is found in missions, studying and teaching the Word, counseling and discipling others – alongside my wife whenever possible. My prayer is the Lord allows me to continue serving up to the very minute He returns or takes me home.
