I was 18 when I got pregnant. This was 1965 and he had been drafted into the Marine Corp. His father got him leave to come home and marry me. Neither of us were Christian. I had been raised strict Catholic and he was nothing. He went to Viet Nam for a year and, when he returned, our daughter was 10 mos old. He returned with PTSD and was mentally and physically abusive. Not having a father around (my parents divorced) I thought all husbands were physically abusive so I accepted it. I lasted for 10 years then got up enough nerve to leave him. I'd had another child who was about 2. There was no support from either him or my mother. I was 28. Comments are closed.
