Ep. 236 Apologetics and Evangelism

What is the difference between apologetics and evangelism and how do they complement one another if at all? Some say apologetics is part of evangelism. Some say it is an important part of pre-evangelism. Some say it should never be connected to evangelism. If it has any value, none of it is for the unbeliever. Apologetics is only to be used to bolster the faith of the believer. Does apologetics detract from evangelism? Does it get us mired in fruitless arguments when witnessing to unbelievers? How do we sort through these things?

Regarding the meshing of evangelism and apologetics, we are commanded to "
"Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." (Colossians 4:5-6). So, we must listen and concentrate on each individual and try to discern where they are, why they are asking certain questions, etc. instead of answering each question they may ask. There are only so many questions that can be asked, but a myriad of reasons for a particular person to ask a particular question. Thanks for the podcast(s)!
